Sorry this post isn't happier! I promise I will try to be more positive when it's daylight savings time again.
Haven't been making much headway on creativity the last few days - I now have two tablets, an iPad and a PC (Asus transformer) and neither of them has the usability that I want, which means that I've spent two days trying to do what I want/need to do only to realize that I either can't, or I'm too stupid to figure it out. At this point I'm ready to return them both, but then will be back to square one: borrowing my boyfriend's machine. I feel really defeated and depressed.
Sorry this post isn't happier! I promise I will try to be more positive when it's daylight savings time again.

This weekend I did something I'd never done before: I made a first draft of a mix, and then I actually took some notes and recorded it again with revisions to make it BETTER. The tracks were all in the 125bpm range, and I looped and sampled. There are 18 songs crammed into this half-hour mix! I'm proud of myself and look forward to gettin down to this baby at the gym. Take a listen!! I hope everyone is enjoying the month as our 30-Day Creativity Challenge is on the home stretch... ...at least the fever is keeping me warm, right? It's frikkin' cold in Portland this week - snow and ice and all! My hand hurts like a sonofa....
But to keep me distracted, I'm daydreaming about tomorrow's shows! New costumes! New props! New choreography! I got up on Saturday morning, put on some headphones, and made a mix! It's all in the 70-bpm range for your slow grooving purposes. On Day 6 I didn't do my 30 minutes of DJ'ing, but I wouldn't say I missed the opportunity to take on a challenge, and be creative.
I went to work all day, then doctor, acupuncture, and had a bellydance gig. Of course, on Day 5 I did my half hour on the "decks" but also spent 45 minutes rehearsing for yesterday's gig, so I wouldn't exactly call it a "free day"..er..."creativity-free" day. Looking forward to getting some extra DJ practice in tonight, though! In fact, I'm just plain excited to have a weekend at home with no gigs... ...so I can prepare for next week! Check out my newly-rebuilt (OOPS) home page to see my featured upcoming shows and workshops. Last night I succumbed to the time change and took a lengthy nap when I got home from work, followed by dinner with a friend (thank you!), a quick workout (remnants of June's 30-day Ab Challenge!), and a cumulative 30 minutes of music mixing, in which I learned how to use the headphone/speaker splitter! Now get yourself over to donate to Cloud City Circus (and get on over to see me perform with them tomorrow night!) Day 3: Last night I imported some songs and started cueing them up in my DJ program. Last weekend Joe and I made a mix of music with BPM in the 70s, then on Saturday I made one in the 80s... last night I figured I'd start cuing up all my 90s, then realized I barely have any! There's a big jump from 80s to 110s in my music selections. HMM! I just learned something about my music preferences.
So anyway, picking music doesn't make for fun watching, so here's a 30 sec clip of mixing from the other night! This weekend I dressed as Buttercup, from The Powerpuff Girls, and go-go danced on a pirate ship with the Professor, Mayor, the other PPG's, Sedusa, Mojo Jojo, and Him. And then on Saturday, the first day of the Creativity Challenge, I dressed as Miss America and danced to some funk being spun by Ali G, with a strange mixture of costumed and muggle-dressed folks. But before I went out for some funk in a patriotic tiara, I wore it while making this mix! It's my first one "all by myself" and I'm pretty proud to say that this mix represents Day 1. Really looking forward to my mix on Day 30! |
